Community Outreach

Eternity Aid hosts free BBQs in Bourke and Taree four times a year. They aim to engage with children and their families in a fun environment that demonstrates social inclusion. These communities face considerable hardship such as high unemployment, low incomes and challenging housing situations. 

Aboriginal communities, in particular, suffer extreme disadvantage. Eternity Aid’s strong long-standing relationship with the Aboriginal community has enabled the Team to visit the villages to collect and return children so they can attend the BBQs.

These events enable modelling of respectful behaviour and conflict resolution skills in a positive environment, especially with interactions between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children. Where children show signs of challenging behaviour, there are teaching opportunities to demonstrate how to regulate emotions and how to interact in a group setting.

The increasing attendance rate over the years is demonstrating the positive community attitude to Eternity Aid’s presence. Over the years, children also now demonstrate positive group dynamics such as taking turns, waiting patiently and caring for younger children.
